Open Studios: For Black Folx, Curated by J. Bouey

CPR 2021 Artist-in-Residence J. Bouey organizes a virtual Open Studios that gives a peek into the creative processes of angel edwards, Jayson P. Smith, and Janae Williams/juh weems/fatblackclit as they explore the ‘captive maternal’ (coined by Joy James), love and care during Black death, interrogating the ruptures that global anti-Blackness creates, and birthing self and others (obligatory and otherwise). The showings of each artists' work will be followed by a conversation with curator J. Bouey where they will share more about their creative processes, and what informs them.

This Open Studios program is open for Black people only.

As a resource, we suggest reading this Everyday Feminism article about why Black-only spaces are needed and healthy in our current social and political climate.
